The detection of acoustic emissions from PD events is a well-known technique for the condition assessment of power equipment. Acoustic Emissions (AE) technique can also be used for the condition assessment of High Voltage Bus bars to detect problems such as partial discharges/arcing, thermal and mechanical faults. AE can be used for the detection of incipient faults before they reach dangerous levels and for trending.
